Field Trip: UCLA Stunt Ranch

Last week, I was able to take my fourth graders on a hiking trip to the UCLA Stunt Ranch.
It was my 4th year visiting the Ranch, and I've never seen as many flowers as I did this year.
A wild cucumber. The Chumash ground it into powder and used the powder to catch fish.

The white flowers are buckwheat.

Sage

Sage flower. My favorite picture of the day. How gorgeous is that?!
Our guide teaching the kids how to recognize poison oak.
Golden Stars

Spaniards planted mustard so soldiers could find their way back from California to Mexico.

A fairy tale forest

The students made pictographs using sand, sandpaper, and glue.
