Year 1: Week 33

Here are 5 of the (many) things we did this week:

1.We read the end of Lamb's A Comedy of Errors. (I'm hoping to take Gemma to an upcoming community college production of this play.)

2.We also read (in Synge) about Julius Caesar (which prompted a discussion of our calendar having 365 days, and what "Leap Year" is, and how the days of the week were named). This is one of the reasons I choose the books I choose. I want books that spark curiosity.

3.Swim lessons started up again. Here is my baby barracuda in the big pool. Because it's the start of the new swim year, kids need to retest to earn their green wristbands, which allow them to be in the pool without being arms-length from a (swimming) parent or guardian. Gemma hasn't been in the pool since November, and when the lifeguard told her that, she said, "Okay, let's do this." I was shocked. If I had been the person having to retest, I would have asked if I could do my barracuda lesson first, as a warm-up, and then take the test, but my child just got right in the water and swam the length of the pool, as if no time had passed since the last time she was in the pool.

4.Gemma enjoyed learning to count in French with this very silly video. (What are these? Rastafarian snakes? With arms?)
5.And here is a picture Gemma drew of a scarecrow scaring away crows...

My 6 Year Old Refuses to do Long Division

...because it just makes no "cents" to do long division when you can do short division. 😂

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Luckily your new gym teacher has a solution. Jim?
...
Homeschooling.

What? Homeschooling?

It means staying at home, sitting at your kitchen table, instead of clogging up a classroom.
